Date: 1st and 2nd March 2022 (Timings TBC)
The Chief Executive Development Network is uniquely positioned as a confidential and non-political, peer development network that offers reflection, renewal, regeneration and community. It offers learning and development support for chief executives, at a time when the challenge in the system to deliver today while creating the services for tomorrow is the greatest it has ever been.
We appreciate that all members of our NHS Chief Executive community continue to face an unparalleled set of opportunities and challenges. As well as emerging from overseeing recovery whilst managing winter pressures, we are still dealing with the unknown trajectory of the pandemic as we simultaneously change to system working, shaped by a new Secretary of State and NHS Chief Executive. Many of us recognise that we will need to transform how we work to lead through these combined challenges at a point of widespread weariness.
This (now virtual) Residential will give you the opportunity to think about how you respond to these realities, providing you with the space to learn, reflect, connect and replenish in an entirely confidential peer network. With the Health and Care Bill set to become law in early April, our broad theme for the two days will be The Realities of System Leadership. During the two days we hope to be joined by colleagues and contributors such as Ernst Kuipers, CEO of Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam and Matthew Syed, who featured together on the Channel 4 Dispatches Programme, ‘Clapped Out? Is the NHS Broken?’, along with General Messenger to discuss the implications of his NHS Leadership Review.
As with all our Residentials, we will build a supportive and honest environment, offering structured opportunities to meet new and familiar colleagues for rich and real conversations about issues of shared and current interest. We will design our programme together rather than following a set agenda, emphasising opportunities for reflection with and learning from peers and welcoming colleagues who can only join for some of the time.
Audience: This session will be open to all Chief Executives and Accountable Officers across healthcare organisations.
